Think back to a time when you were surprised by how much more of something came in a package.

It felt amazing, didn’t it? You instantly felt better about your purchase. It was a little like winning the lottery.

Not try and remember a time where you were surprised by how much less of something came in a package.

It felt ugly and awful. You felt ripped off. You probably got angry and vowed to tell everyone how badly some company had cheated you.

What’s the difference between these two situations? Expectations.

Happiness and Well-Being & Expectations

Every emotion we feel is related to our expectations. If things are worse than expected, we experience negative emotions like sadness, anger, and disgust. If things are better than expected, we experience positive emotions like happiness, surprise, or gratitude.
