How to Write Better Headlines
You are not going to like this tip — but it works!
One of my favorite recurring freelance writing gigs is when I get paid to write slogans and headlines.
The work is so fun, it’s like getting paid to play. Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that I am a professional headline writer. I get paid to write headlines for blogs, articles, and emails.
But, it has taken me almost eight years to be comfortable enough with my headline writing skills to offer this as one of my main services.
The truth is I used to suck at copywriting in general and headline writing in particular.
Then I read some advice that changed my career. Except, I ignored the advice for two years before I got desperate.
I took a copywriting course that suggested the best way to get good at writing copy that sells is to copy great sales letters by hand. I hate my handwriting. My hand starts to cramp up after just a paragraph — but this course said I should copy multi-page sales letters by hand!
