I lived in Taiwan for two years in the mid-90s, including 5 months in Lotung along the east coast. I went to Jiufen a few times, and it was still mystical and wonderful, not yet overrun by tourists. I’ve been to a lot of places since then, but I haven’t been back to Taiwan. Thanks for your wonderful article. Now I need to go back, I’m craving Taiwanese breakfast street food!
