“I love you,” is like sunscreen.
It’s a shield against the corrupting
UV rays that wither skin and foment
malignant cancers that only appear
when you are old, and it’s too late.

You should smear the word love
all over before you leave the house
— every time. The application of I love you
is especially important for people prone to
forget that they are loved or for people
with a congenital tendency to doubt their
worthiness of love.

So, before you leave me to brave a world of
capricious cruelty and insufficiently mitigated UV
rays, please put on some sunscreen and let me say,
I love you.
