The Case for Self-Doubt

Only fools are fearless

Running a business, even if you’re the only employee, is an act of uncommon bravery. Most people will never dare to work without the safety net of a regular paycheck.

Entrepreneurs consume a lot of information. We are always looking for an edge. But, we often fail to examine what the effect of all the articles, podcasts, and books have on our worldview.

One of the most common ideas in the self-help, productivity, and entrepreneurship niches is that we must overcome our doubts because they keep us from achieving our dreams.

What is a life without doubt like?

It’s miserable and dangerous. Self-doubt, when kept within healthy limits, will make you a better leader and a better entrepreneur.

What is Doubt?

Doubt is the voice in your mind that wants you to double-check your work and asks you to rethink your latest launch strategy that you thought up in the shower this morning.

It’s the voice always asking, “Are you sure?”

Often, our doubts are loud and persistent. This can be paralyzing. I live with an anxiety disorder. I’ve had times in my life where crippling self-doubt has led to panic attacks, vomiting, and staying in bed for weeks.
