This is something I should probably write a full post about. Long-form, well-written blog posts are good for generating organic traffic over long periods. They don't do much for your business in the short-term.

When I write for clients I try to make blog posts about the why something is important or explaining what something is.

The email newsletter content tends to be more focused on the how to do something because the how is more valuable to a business. It also proves your expertise. The do it yourselfers will feel good about you even if they don't buy right now and they will say good things to others that may lead to getting more customers down the road.

But, do it yourselfers aren't your ideal customers. Your ideal customers will read the how to articles in the newsletter and see that you know your stuff and they will want you to do that for them. Customers are always paying for a solution, not a blueprint. With the internet anyone could figure out how to do anything. We pay businesses because we don't want to do the thing ourselves, we just want it to be done.

I hope that makes sense. If I write a full article about this, I will try and remember to come back and link to it here.
